Tourism in the Region Of Coquimbo

A region of Beaches and Valleys
This region of Chile had become , in last years , in an area of great touristical demand. Its templade climate, with nice days and few times cloudy in the coast and warmer days in the mountain chain, it makes this zone particular and perfect for all kinds of tourism.

It is part of the called “small north”, it counts with beautiful beaches and resorts, as well as a great archeological wealth and priviliged scenes for astronomical observation. It has a fruitful agriculture, where we find a great fruit and moists production. Visit and Enjoy of the goodness in the Forth Region, starting with this directory.

THE PROVINCE ATTRACTIONS

The region is divided into the provinces of:

ELQUI PROVINCE
La Serena ,capital of the region. .Typical features are the colonial architecture, the Monumental Lighthouse, the beaches( Canto del Agua, La Marina ,Mansa, Blanca, Las Gaviotas and others),the archeological and mineralogical museums and the colonial ones of religious art. Santa Ines Cathedral ,La Recova Market, Gonzalez Videla House , Supplies Square , University of LA Serena Onlooker , among others.
Coquimbo, principal port of the Region and a place full of legends about pirates adventures who visited the island. Between others attractions remarks: the Municipal Casino, beaches such as La Herradura, Las Mostazas, Guanaqueros, Totoralillo, Tongoy, The Coast Avenue, Guayacán Church, Square like: Prat, Gabriela Mistral, Hipic Club.
The in the country side keep cultural attractions in this way we find Vicuña, origin land of The Poet Gabriela Mistral, Nobel Prize of Literature in 1945. Paihuano and Monte Grande, where you find Gabriela Mistral Tumb. Pisco Elqui Artisanal center and a Plant for the Production of Pisco and Ansacollo a town dedicated to gold extraction and religious traditions, like the fest in honor to theVirgen of Rosario.

LIMARÍ PROVINCE
Ovalle city, capital of the province, located at 86 kilometers southeast from La Serena. From here you can visit differrent places like The Valley of Enchantment, the National Park Fray Jorge, known for the leafy vegetation with valdivian woods located in the south part of the country and it was named biosphere Reserve. Combarbalá, mining town, the main activity is the extraction and the crafting of a stone called Combarbalita, a mineral similar to marbel ,it takes different colours after it s worked like white, pink, different tones of blue. La Paloma Dam, use for irrigation and recreation purposes, Sotaqui, a famous location known for the pisco production and for the religious fest to God Child of Sotaqui.

CHOAPA PROVINCE
In this region we find, a known beach city: Los Vilos with long coasts (Agua Dulce, Amarilla, Las Conchitas, Totoralillo)and Pichidangui an exclusive beach with clear sand, it is special for nautic sports.
There are also in this area the cities of Illapel and Salamaca, this last one is place full of legends and folklore. In Illapel the principal activity is the gold extraction and in its sorroundings is located the National Reserve Las Chinchillas.
